Store Collection
Drop off or receive e-waste in stores, here’s how it works.
Let us Explain
In accordance with producer responsibility, stores that sell electronics must accept electronic waste from consumers. Through store collection, we make it easy for consumers to dispose of their electronic waste in an environmentally friendly way.
All stores that sell electronics must accept electronic waste from consumers, free of charge, regardless if the customer purchases a new product or not. All stores must accept electronic waste of the same types of products they sell, regardless of the brand or whether the product was originally purchased from their store. Stores with a sales area over 400 square meters must accept all end-of-life electronics under 25 cm from consumers. Stores must also accept electronic waste from retailers if they purchase an equivalent quantity of new products.
Rules for Stores
One-to-one Principle:
When a customer buys a new electronic product, the store must accept an old product of the same type for recycling. For example, a customer can return their old electric toothbrush to the store when buying a new one.
Stores with Large Areas:
Stores with a sales area over 400 square meters must accept small electronic waste, i.e., end-of-life products under 25 cm, regardless of whether the customer buys a new product or not.
Waste from Retailers (Denmark):
Stores in Denmark must accept end-of-life products from retailers if they purchase a similar amount of new products.
Secure Collect
Recipo has developed Secure Collect (LINK), a safe collection specifically aimed at end-of-life products that may contain personal information. Secure Collect is an excellent way to recycle, for example, old mobile phones, laptops, and hard drives. The electronic waste is collected in locked containers that are opened by authorized personnel at our contracted recyclers, who also ensure that all data is erased.
What Happens After Collection?
Once the stores have collected the electronic waste, it is delivered to an approved producer responsibility organization. The electronic waste is then transported to certified recycling facilities where the products are sorted and processed. Many materials can be recycled and reused, reducing environmental impact and saving natural resources.
