Producer Responsibility, EU-directiv since 2005

In 2005, an EU directive was established to contribute to increased sustainability in production and consumption. This took the form of the concept ‘Producer Responsibility.’ It applies to several industries, such as packaging, tires, and vehicles.

At Recipo, we have the pleasure of working with producer responsibility for electronics, batteries, and packaging throughout the Nordic region.

All companies that produce and sell electronics, batteries and packages in Europe are required to contribute to covering the costs of collection and recycling of these products. By doing so, we collectively strive toward a circular economy and reduce the risks associated with hazardous waste.

Why is Producer Responsibility Necessary?

Recipo takes Producer Responsibility a Step Further

In addition to ensuring that companies fulfill their responsibility and contribute to the collection and recycling of electronics and batteries, we at Recipo have implemented further environmental initiatives:

  • We have full traceability throughout the recycling chain until the waste is no longer classified as such.
  • An essential aspect of our work is to ensure that a larger portion of the electronic waste we collect can be recycled into new products.
  • We sort out products that can be reused.
  • Batteries are sorted out by our recyclers to prevent hazardous emissions.
  • Our focus is on recycling as much as possible, including the materials that are challenging-to-recycle.
  • We provide all companies that join us with information on how the electronic, batteries, and packaging waste recycling works so that you can distribute this to your consumers.
  • We are your compliance partner for electronics and provide tailored consultancy services to assure that you are compliant – today and tomorrow

Authorized Representative (AR)

AR – In this context is a company with the authority to perform actions related to a company’s producer responsibility. Recipo has the authority to act as an authorized representative.

Requirements for Foreign Companies within the EU:

  • Foreign companies operating within the European Union (EU) must appoint an authorized representative to sell products in the Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, and Finnish markets.
  • However, there are exceptions: If for example your company is Swedish-registered and sells exclusively within the Swedish market, you do not need to appoint an AR. Similarly, the same exemption applies to the rest of the Nordic countries except for Denmark, where Danish companies are not allowed to appoint an AR.

Companies Located Outside the EU:

  • Companies located outside of EU that sells in the Swedish market must appoint an AR.
  • In Denmark, companies based outside the EU are not allowed to appoint an AR.
